International Conference on Translation and Interpretation 2010 in Thailand

Posted by corling on February 26, 2010

The Chalermprakiat Centre of Translation and Interpretation, Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University (Bangkok) is pleased to announce its first international conference on translation and interpretation, to be held at the Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel on November 1-3, 2010. The conference aims to promote translation and interpretation as an emerging field in Thailand, and to encourage an exchange of ideas among translation and interpretation scholars and practitioners from around the world. Papers are invited on all aspects of translation and interpretation.

Call for Papers

Twenty-first century Thailand sees a growing need for translation as a result of globalization and the advent of cyberspace. The Free Trade Agreement between Asian countries to be signed in 2010 will likely increase trade activities, but this may be hampered by communication breakdowns stemming from differences in linguistic and cultural background. Translators and interpreters therefore play an important role in intercultural communication and in fostering good relations between peoples.

With Translation Studies a relatively new field in Thailand, the conference will serve as a forum for an exchange of ideas among scholars, translators and interpreters from across the globe. We welcome papers on a broad range of topics related to T&I, including but are not limited to:

  • Audiovisual translation
  • Corpora and translation
  • Cultural aspects in translation
  • History of translation
  • Linguistics and translation
  • Literary translation
  • Machine Translation
  • Translation assessment
  • Translation in the digital age
  • Translation pedagogy
  • Aptitude testing in interpretation
  • Community interpretation
  • Cultural aspects in interpreting
  • Discourse and interpretation
  • Interpretation and psycholinguistics
  • Interpretation and the cognitive processes
  • Interpreting in Asia
  • Training of interpreters
